Good progress on new Slovakian plant

Meeting the needs of a growing market

SWEP currently has around 40% of the rapidly growing European market, and must increase production capacity to satisfy the demand anticipated in the future. That’s the reasoning behind the company’s new US$12m production plant, which is currently under construction in Kechnec Industrial Park, near Košice in Slovakia.

Excellent location in the EU

Slovakia is a member of the EU, and also has a central European location that means it is close to SWEP’s major markets in German, France and Italy. The new factory will not only increase production capacity, particularly of BPHEs for wall-hung gas boilers, but will also continue SWEP’s commitment to being close to its customers.

Highly qualified local employees

Slovakia’s fine industrial traditions in steel and metallurgy give SWEP access to a pool of very competent potential employees, and recruitment is well under way. To maintain SWEP’s global standards, relevant employees will travel to Sweden for full training at the company’s Landskrona headquarters.

Production starts later this year

Production is scheduled to start in fall 2006, and will eventually involve 24/7 production, with an optimized flow and full control of all critical steps in production, processes and quality. SWEP’s Lean manufacturing philosophy will be fully implemented, ensuring a reliable flow of top-quality products for customers all over Europe.

Construction on schedule

Things are very busy now on the new site, with the groundwork virtually complete and preparations on schedule for pouring concrete and erecting the steel. The vital archeological survey brought the mix of good news and disappointment familiar to anyone involved in a project like this: relief that nothing was found that could delay the project, tinged with just a little disappointment that... nothing was found!
