Side-stepping corrosion and leaching

The SWEP All-Stainless range is especially suitable for systems where the heat exchanger must withstand aggressive media and where contamination must be avoided at all costs.

Stainless steel BPHEs have channel plates made of genuine stainless steel. They are brazed together with an iron-based copper-free filler material that mimics the composition of the plates. The carefully considered composition delivers superior corrosion resistance and makes the SWEP All-Stainless range suitable for aggressive media such as ammonia, deionized water, and fluids with a high sulfur content.

Being 100% copper-free, our All-Stainless BPHEs are the ideal replacement for traditional copper- and nickel-brazed heat exchangers where leaching must be avoided.

Ammonia

Ammonia is aggressive to copper. In systems with ammonia as the heat transfer media, traditional copper-brazed BPHEs are at high risk of corrosion leading to system failure. SWEP All-Stainless BPHEs are ideal for preventing copper corrosion and avoiding system failure. The robust construction is suitable for various ammonia applications, including demanding cascade applications.

Deionized water is one of the most aggressive solvents known, and corrodes many metals including copper. With SWEP All-stainless you can feel assured that corrosion is prohibited and the lifetime of your system prolonged.

Cooling sheet metal laser cutting equipment with SWEP All-Stainless BPHEs

  • Glen Dimplex Thermal Solutions (GDTS) manufactures air- and water-cooled chillers.
  • A key issue faced by GDTS with chillers from previous suppliers was leaking evaporators. The previous chiller manufacturers had begun to use standard copper brazed BPHEs which could not withstand the corrosion of the deionized water.
  • The conductivity level of the deionized water was thoroughly evaluated by SWEP from a material compatibility standpoint, leading to the decision of requiring all stainless-steel brazed BPHEs. SWEP All-Stainless products are developed for systems demanding 100% stainless steel components, and for high-temperature applications. They can be used with fluids that are corrosive to copper, e.g. ammonia, or for sensitive applications where copper and nickel contamination must be avoided.
